A midlife crisis waiting to happen and a recovering vagabond, I am a middle-aged Work At Home Mother of two and, in my few minutes of downtime, an artist and writer.
I have been drawing and doodling since I could hold a pencil. Mostly self-taught, I waded into watercolor as a way to enhance and illustrate cartoons and posts on my first blog, called “Picking My Battles.” Watercolor teaches me not only to look closely, but also to loosen up and work more freely.
I am in love with the little stories happening around the dinner table and at the school parking lot and my illustrations and paintings also focus on those.
Living in Vermont I also find escape and inspiration in the natural world and often paint the Vermont landscape as well as the lake shore along Southwestern Michigan, eastern Washington state, and Iceland. I am fascinated by human fingerprints left on the once-natural world and by the fragility of civilization that these attempts to tame the land actually represent.
I have shown in solo exhibitions The Canfield Gallery (Arlington, Vermont), The Equinox Gallery (Manchester, VT), and The Spiral Press Gallery (Manchester, VT).
